This ledger was compiled by joiner/carpenter Ezekiel Smith between 1773-1831. In this manuscript, Smith recorded the labor he performed for others on the left hand page; on the right page, he recorded such goods and services as corn, cutting wood, cider, coal, mutton, and rice that he bartered for in return. Smith performed a variety of carpentry and joinery work including making and fixing cart wheels and axles, mending chairs, building beds, repairing plow frames, hooping pails and tubs, and making looms, button molds, coffins, window frames, and door frames. At several points Smith was apparently contracted to work at other businesses, including a sawmill and a forge. At the mill he fixed the water wheel, made gears, and built boxes for the crank and noddle. At the forge he mended wheels, repaired the floor, fixed the bellows, and made hammer handles. The last page of the document contains a rough architectural drawing of the floor plan of a house.
